Kinmel Bay made a successful trip down the A55 to face Llanfairfecan in the first round of the Development League Cup.
With both teams having good seasons so far, it looked as though a good game was on the cards.
Bay started brightly, working Ben Stubbs in goal for the hosts and defender Cai Jones made some crucial blocks on the line to make sure the game remained 0-0 until 42 minutes when the lively Jacob Jones worked a shot from the edge of the box that was initially saved well but the rebound was put away by Connor Craig to put the visitors 1-0 up at the break.
The home side started the second half strongly after a change in shape and started to cause Bay problems.
Both teams continued to create chances but some good defending meant it would take something special to score the second goal of the game.
That’s exactly what happened on 72 minutes when James Griffiths’ shot from 25 yards bounced in off the crossbar to level the tie at 1-1.
Heading into the last 15 minutes.both camps brought on fresh legs and it was one of the substitutes that got the winning goal – Bay’s Ryan Fleming.
The determined Fleming pressed the keeper whose clearance bounced in off the Kinmel player for the decider on 84 minutes.
