Which North Wales senior men’s football teams have netted the most league goals this season?
Compiling this list initially felt like a bit of a futile exercise when it emerged the top four goal-getters all play in the same division – the Tier 5 North East Wales League Championship.
That division also features two largely inexperienced teams in development which regularly concede double figures, hence the leading four net-busters have filled their boots against these relative rookies on a regular basis.
It could be argued these dominant teams hold a bit of an advantage over sides in other leagues which do not face such defensively-challenged opposition.
But this is grassroots, involving several different levels of football all playing an important role in keeping our leagues alive.
The top 10 still makes interesting reading, we feel.
Biggest wins this season for the Wrexham-based side include 15-0, 14-0 and 12-0.
Their 100 goals have come in just 16 games and top-scorer in league alone is Sam Giles with 31.
Heaviest league victories so far are 18-1 and 16-3 with leading marksman Jonny Crossley on 21.
Twelve wins out of 12 for Gronant, including a 14-2 demolition job.
Madoc’s heaviest hammerings dished out to date have been 16-1 and 10-2.
Outside of the North East Wales Championship Division, the top net-finders are Llandudno Amateurs of Tier 5 North Wales Coast East Division One.
Their biggest triumph so far is 11-0, while joint leading scorers are Azz Rogers and Joe Jones on 16 apiece in the league.
Flying high in FAW Reserve League North Tier 1-2, Nomads have amassed 61 goals in just 11 matches, Tyler Berry their No1 hitman on 11.
North East Wales Reserve League champions Queen’s Park Reserves are excelling again, notching 56 goals in 12 outings so far with 11-0 their biggest bamboozling.
Veteran Richard Jones has banged in 20 goals to top the division’s list, team-mate Joshua Venables in second on 12.
Rhyd have recorded an 11-0 and 10-2 so far and sit fourth in the North East Wales League Championship.
Nathan Williams is third highest scorer in the division on 18 goals.
Cracking achievement for Tier 2 Flint to be in the top 10 considering they play at a much higher level than the other teams in this list.
The Silkmen are the only Cymru North side so far to reach 50 goals in 2023-24, perhaps their most eye-catching win being a 9-4 pasting of Llanidloes Town.
Their most productive marksmen in the league are Elliott Reeves (15) and Josh Jones (14), the pair sitting second and third in the CN goal standings respectively with Bangor 1876’s Corrig McGonigle top (17).
Tier 4 North Wales Coast West Premier Division table-toppers Gwalchmai cannot stop scoring.
They recorded a 10-2 win in October, while their young striker Kaine Bentley heads the Premier goals chart on 20.
