Llandudno FC’s big homecoming cancelled – for now

Llandudno FC’s Maesdu Park

Llandudno Football Club’s much-awaited return to Maesdu Park, scheduled for this Friday, has had to be cancelled.

Inclement weather has prevented contractors being able to get the new 4G pitch at the OPS Wind Arena ready in time for tomorrow night’s JD Cymru North clash with Chirk AAA.

The match has been switched to Maes Tegid, Bala – more than 40 miles away.

Tudno have not played a game at the OPS since September 30, 2022, due to the previous 3G surface being declared unfit for purpose.

Fans were looking forward to the return of football to Maesdu Park on Friday, but now they will have to wait a little longer.

The club said in a statement today:

“Unfortunately, there has been an unexpected development regarding Friday’s game that we advertised.

“Regrettably, due to unexpected weather conditions this morning, our pitch contractors, who were diligently working on laying a new pitch, have informed us that they will not be able to complete the work in time for the game.

“The final steps of laying the pitch require completely dry conditions. Unfortunately this morning’s weather has affected these final steps.

“We understand how eagerly you have been looking forward to this return, and we share your disappointment.

“We want to assure you that this decision was not taken lightly, and we explored every possible avenue to try and ensure the game could go ahead at The OPS Wind Arena.

“We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you. Our primary concern is always the safety of our players and ensuring the longevity of the pitch.

“We have worked hard to find a venue and can confirm Friday’s game vs Chirk AAA will take place at Maes Tegid (Bala Town) 7:45pm kick off. A possible coach for this game is in the process of being organised, further updates on this will follow shortly.

“We value your continued support and appreciate your understanding in this matter.

“Once again, we extend our deepest apologies for any disappointment this news may bring.”
