To score six goals at home and still lose a game is a very rare occurrence.
Then again, to net eight goals away and yet still only triumph narrowly does not happen that often either.
With both having reputations as prolific net-finders, it was inevitable that today’s FAW Amateur Trophy tie between Y Glannau and Bow would produce a few goals, but 14? Definitely not a good day for defences!
Unusually for them, Y Glannau started very slowly and were 3-0 down inside 21 minutes, Robbie Parry delivering a double and Kyle Robb a single.
The hosts got themselves back in the game after Luke Stanley nodded down for Harrison Bellis to finish well.
A disappointing five-minute spell from the home team then saw them concede goals four and five, Loui O’Carroll and Liam Sykes on the mark.
Even though only 35 minutes were played it felt like it was game over for Y Glannau, who now trailed 5-1.
The St Asaph side needed to respond and show character – had they not it could have got embarrassing.
And Y Glannau pulled one back before half time after Harrison Bellis’ free kick hit the defensive wall, the ball fell to Jared Hughes and he smashed it home.
Against the run of play Bow made it 6-2 early in the second half. A long ball over the home defence was latched onto by Charlie Jones, who finished clinically.
Bellis cut the deficit to 6-3, but then an O’Carroll pair, to make it a personal hat-trick, put Prestatyn-based Bow out of sight.
Y Glannau’s most pleasing spell in the game came in the last 10 minutes, when they scored three times.
On 84 minutes, Stanley put in Bellis, who produced a smart finish for his hat-trick.
Three goals from Bellis, three assists from Stanley. The understanding between these two was brilliant and augurs well for the future.
In the 86th minute, Stanley got his deserved goal after good work from Chris Rogers.
Then in added time, Bellis’ effort then hit the post, but from a tight angle Joey Fontana netted the rebounded with an unreal strike on the volley.
