NORTH WALES WOMEN’S LEAGUE WEST

CPD Pwllheli 2 Llangefni Town 1

Pwllheli made it two wins out of two in the North Wales Women’s League West and handed Llangefni their first loss of the season in the process.

Catrin Thomas and Magi Hughes supplied the goals which secured three points for the home side, with Jess Jones converting a late spot-kick for Cefni, who remain top on goal difference.

In awful conditions, both teams fought hard and showed why they are at the top end of the table.

The deadlock was broken on 18 minutes when a nice bit of build-up play in midfield led to Catrin Thomas finding the net.

The strong winds and heavy rain ensured producing quality football was tough, but still the play from each side was excellent at times.

Pwllheli had plenty of chances until they made it 2-0 in the 73rd minute.

Captain Hughes intercepted a goal kick and broke through one on one with the keeper to score.her third goal in two matches.

Llangefni had some good attacks of their own and were unlucky with a few offside decisions that went against them.

The Anglesey team did win what the hosts considered a somewhat dubious penalty for a challenge on Hannah Owen with two minutes left which Jess Jones put away for her 11th goal in just five matches this season – magnificent form from the 17-year-old.
