Corwen are on the up….again!

NORTH WALES CRICKET LEAGUE DIVISION THREE – FINAL TABLE 2023

Corwen Cricket Club clinched back-to-back league titles as they wrapped up the North Wales League Division Three crown in style with a 15-0 points win on Saturday.

Division Four champions in 2022, Corwen secured another promotion to Division Two after winning their final game of the 2023 campaign by 10 wickets at Mynydd Isa and Maeshafn.

In a short-lived encounter at Argoed Sports and Social Club, Corwen put the hosts into bat and skittled them out for just 45 in 19.2 overs.

Simon Harrison took 4-6 off 4.2 overs and William Pooler snapped up 4-22.

Corwen took just 5.3 overs to reach 46 without loss, Tom King 27 not out and William Pooler 14 no.

The margin of victory ensured Corwen finished two points ahead of Ruthin in the title race.

In 2023, Corwen won 11 of their 18 games, losing 4 with three either cancelled or abandoned.

Tom King was the leading run scorer by just a single, his total of 511 from 18 league games just edging him past Aminul Sany on 510, with Harry Pooler hitting 409.

In the bowling, Simon Harrison scooped 35 league wickets, Sany 24 and William Pooler 21.

Clwb Criced Caernarfon (4) 159-7 Denbigh 2nd XI (11) 171-7

Put into bat, Denbigh seconds chalked up a winning 171-7, Darren Nixon with 42 and Josh Jones 33, Jac Birch 3-27 for the Cofis.

In reply, Caernarfon gave it their best shot, but finished up 12 short on 159-7, skipper Huw Erddyn Davies 54 and Ian Morgan 48, Daniel Nixon 2-11, Jake Hall 2-19 and Josh Jones 2-23 for the visitors.

Connah’s Quay 2nd XI (2) 170-6 Gwersyllt Park 2nd XI (13) 242-10

Cai Pearson struck 74 and Sean Dodd 48 as Gwersyllt piled up 242 all out off 40 overs after winning the toss and electing to bat.

Jack Griffiths nabbed 3-29 for the home side, who were limited to 170-6 in response, Rhys Stout 60 not out and George Cottrell 42, Jake James 2-27 for the visitors, who won by 72 runs and 13-2 on points.
