New Caernarfon boss has been part of club management set-up for seven years

Richard Owain Davies is the new first team manager at Caernarfon Town following today’s departure of Huw Griffiths.

Davies had been assistant to Griffiths since January 2020, having joined the club’s management structure in 2016.

Porthmadog man Richard is a popular figure at The Oval and liked and respected far and wide across Welsh football.

Club chairman Paul Evans said: “Our decision to give the job to Richard until the end of the season makes a lot of sense to us. He knows the club and players well and, having been with us since 2016 and being an assistant to three managers during this time, we feel he has earned his opportunity in the hot seat.

“In his time with us he has shown a real passion for the club and has become a first-class coach, gaining his ‘A’ Licence. We believe this is the correct decision for the club and we wish Richard the very best of luck in his new role.”

Richard first joined Caernarfon seven years ago when Iwan Williams was manager of the club. He also worked under Sean Eardley before Huw Griffiths took over.

The new Canaries boss is a former manager of CPD PENRHYNDEUDRAETH.

Having previously assisted Gareth Piercy at Maes y Parc, Richard took over as manager during the summer of 2011 and achieved an impressive first season at the helm, guiding his team to a memorable treble success as they became Gwynedd League champions and winners of the Gwynedd Safeflue and Bob Owen Memorial Shields.

This was followed by triumphs in the Take Stock Van Hire Cup in 2012/13, the Lock Stock Welsh Alliance League Division Two title in 2013/14 and the 2015/16 Mawddach Cup with a 4-1 final victory over Glantraeth.
