While Wrexham were making headline news at the top of the table on Sunday, there was quite a story to tell in the lower reaches of the Genero Adran North too.
At the 11th attempt, Airbus UK Broughton celebrated their first league win of the campaign at the expense of mid-Wales visitors Airbus.
Georgia Spibey netted the all-important goal for the Wingmakers nine minutes from time.
Airbus had recorded a couple of good cup victories this season, but up until yesterday had not managed a league point.
This was not for the want of trying. At Rhyl 1879, they had come back from 3-1 down to be 3-3 only to lose to virtually the last kick of the game.
And the Wingmakers had pushed champions Wrexham very hard at home, losing just 2-0 to a pair of goals in the closing minutes.
Sunday’s opponents Llanfair were next-to-bottom and had only defeated Airbus 2-0 at home back in January, so the Broughton side certainly had hope of that elusive first win before kick off.
Both teams had chances in the first half at the Hollingsworth Group Stadium, Ruby Stevens producing one fine save to keep the score at 0-0.
Just before the interval Llanfair, who travelled with the bare 11, suffered a player injury which meant them being reduced to 10.
The Powys side did get back to their full complement for some of the second half.
Anna Owen came on as a replacement for Airbus and looked dangerous on the left-hand side, putting in numerous crosses but the home team just could not apply the finish.
Another injury for the travellers put them down to 10 for the duration and the hosts stepped up the pressure.
The winner came when Mel Jones threaded a great through ball for Spibey to fire past keeper Ffion Davies.
Llanfair nearly equalised as they attacked a poor back pass to take the ball round the keeper only for India Howarth to make a crucial tackle to keep the score at 1-0.
There was joy at last at the final whistle as Airbus celebrated their first league victory of 2022-23.
