This weekend brings the quarter-finals of the prestigious NWCFA Junior Challenge Cup.

Here, Grassroots North Wales previews the three ties still going ahead.

PREVIEWS: NWCFA JUNIOR CUP QUARTER-FINALS (1.30 PM KO’S)

Llanfairpwll v Bow

Of the three quarter-final ties being played on Saturday, this one is hardest to predict.

Llanfairpwll are on a mission to win the Junior Cup and gain promotion to the Premier in tribute to their late and much-missed secretary Alun Mummery, who passed away late last year.

The Anglesey side are fifth in North Wales Coast West Division One with just two losses in 13 outings.

Llanfair will unfortunately be without 14-goal top-scorer Jay Finter, who is suspended, as is captain Dylan Williams. Both received red cards in last weekend’s 4-0 loss to Trearddur Bay.

However, ‘Pwll manager Gwyndaf Hughes is confident he still has a strong enough squad available to win the tie. Marquis Holland, who has 12 goals this season, and Rees Roberts, scorer of nine, will both pose a danger.

Llanfair can also take confidence from the fact they knocked NFA, high-flyers in the same division as Bow, out of the FAW Amateur Trophy earlier in the season.

As for Bow, they are an ambitious Prestatyn-based club who occupy fifth spot in North Wales Coast East Division One and have impressed in their debut season.

Unfortunately for them, a number of their quality signings of recent months are not eligible to play at Maes Eilian on Saturday, but new addition Mike Chapman is allowed to take part.

Bow are undefeated in five league games and have picked up 13 points from a possible last 15. It would not be beyond them to make a push for the league title and promotion.

Bethesda Rovers v Llandudno Amateurs

Rovers will take on one of the most dangerous sides at tier 5 level in North Wales when Llandudno Amateurs land at Plas Ffrancon.

The visitors have piled up 102 goals in just 19 matches across all competitions this season and sit third in North Wales Coast East Division One, well-placed for a title bid.

Amateurs possess one of the best striking partnerships around in Azz Rogers and Joe Jones. The pair have bagged 55 goals between them, Rogers 29 and Jones 26.

Rovers, in just their second season in competitive senior football, struggled in their debut campaign, but are much improved this term, lying seventh in West Division One.

One area of concern will be Tristan Walker’s side have lost five of their last six games, but with home advantage they will be going for it.

Cemaes Bay v Holyhead Town

Junior Cup holders Cemaes Bay will be firm favourites to beat fellow North Wales Coast West Division One side Holyhead Town at School Lane.

Current Division One leaders Cemaes will take on a Holyhead outfit struggling in fourth from bottom.

Bay have already defeated the Harbourmen 5-1 at home this season in the league back in September.

Unbeaten in seven matches, Cemaes have lost just once in 17 games across all competitions this term.

Holyhead have lost four on the bounce, their last victory coming at home to CPD Y Fali in early December.

Abergele W/O Arriva

Abergele advance automatically to the semi-finals as Bangor-based Arriva withdrew from the competition.
