Report: Mr Treflyn Jones
Danny Warren’s 14th goal of the season clinched Mold three points at the expense of a Porthmadog side which lost for the seventh time in eight league starts.
Despite a good, patient second-half showing, Port were just unable to pierce a resolute Alex defence and fired blanks for the third game in succession.
The hosts were first out of the blocks as a cross-cum-shot in the second minute by Meilir Williams narrowly evaded the Mold crossbar.
Alex looked a strong and dangerous side, especially down the flanks, and after 11 minutes the game’s only goal arrived.
Caio Hughes was in the middle of a good move for Port on the edge of the box but the enterprising playmaker lost possession and Mold were quickly up the opposite end.
Joe Ormrod calmly rolled the ball into the path of Warren and the striker did the rest with an admirably placed finish to the left of Morgan Jones.
Port threatened three minutes later when Cai Jones’ header from Caio Hughes’ right-wing cross went straight into the grateful arms of keeper Elliot Quinlan. Then on the half hour, Williams’ disappointingly tame shot rolled at a snail’s pace to Quinlan.
Mold came close several times with well-worked moves hwarted by last-ditch challenges, but Port missed narrowly again when a well-floated free kick by Cai Parry ended with a volley just past the upright by the industrious Cai Jones.
Both sides had their moments in the second half, Warren almost completing a double with a fine-looking overhead volley on 65 minutes.
Five minutes later, both teams were reduced to 10 men when Harri Hughes and Haci Ozlu were involved in a minor altercation which really did not warrant red cards.
Porthmadog: Morgan Jones, Stuart Rogers (Kian Hughes 83), Josh Banks, Nathan Williams, Cai Parry (Cian Pritchard 45), Marcus Banks (Ben Fisher 45), Meilir Williams (Jamie McDaid 73), Gerwyn Williams, Cai Jones, Caio Hughes (Gethin Williams 74), Harri Hughes,
Mold Alex: Elliot Quinlan, Matthew Lewis, Haci Ozlu, Danny Warren (Ellis Hickey 88), Joe Ormrod (Nathan Mendoza 79), Callum Freeman (Dom Doherty 61), Alex Smith, Lee Emberton, Rhys Nash, Dafydd Griffith, Henry Nash.

All-square at Holyhead Road, with a draw not really suiting either side in their quest for safety.
Borough led through Conor Whelan’s goal on 37 minutes, but just before the break the same player missed a penalty.
Eight minutes after the interval, Dale Davies made it level, but after that neither team could find the winner.
A Rob Owen strike early in the second half rescued a point for Ruthin after Llandudno had taken the lead with an early penalty.
Shaun Cavanagh put away the 11th minute spot kick which gave the Seasiders a 1-0 advantage.
Dan Goldston produced a brilliant 18th minute save to deny Sam Jones a second for the visitors.
No further goals before the interval, but three minutes after the restart Rob Owen made it 1-1.
Ruthin would have taken the lead on 72 minutes but for a cracking save from Shaun Pearson.
Tudno had chances to win it late.
Joe Chaplin went close with a volley, while Marc Williams’ last-gasp header nearly clinched it.
