Ian Griffiths is on fire – but how many goals he has scored in his entire career?

Ian Griffiths is on fire!

The Prestatyn Sports striker has scored nine goals in his last four appearances, including two hat-tricks, and is on 14 for the season.

But how many goals has the 37-year-old chalked up over his career?

That is something we don’t know and would like your help to find out.

In recent years, Grassroots North Wales has managed to establish the career totals of modern-day goal machines such as Asa Thomas (more than 600), Corrig McGonigle (above 350) and Sion Parry (around the 350 mark).

However, there are many other net-finding greats whose stats we have not been able to uncover.

Ian Griffiths is one of them, but after a chat with him recently, we found there are a few gaps but not as many as thought.

We’ve accounted for almost 140 Griffo goals. We realise there is little chance of ever finding the precise figure, but it would be nice to confirm where it is more than 200…more than 300 etc

This man deserves massive praise for what he has achieved.

He has scored goals at ALL levels – Welsh Premier, Cymru North, Welsh Alliance, tier 4….

Pace, power and when on song stunning finishing ability – that’s Griffo.

Here is what we have confirmed so far

IAN GRIFFITHS – CAREER GOALS

2007/08: Prestatyn Town (Cymru Alliance) – 16 goals
2008-10: Prestatyn Town (Welsh Premier) – 19 goals (76 apps)
2011-12: Denbigh Town – 11 goals
2012-13: Holywell Town – 16 goals
2017-18: Prestatyn Sports – 35 goals
2018-19: Prestatyn Sports – 6 goals in 2 games
2018-19: Prestatyn Town – Unknown
2019-20: Prestatyn Town (Cymru North) – 4 goals league/7 all comps
2020-21: SEASON CANCELLED (Covid)
2021-22: Prestatyn Sports – 12 goals
2022-23: Prestatyn Sports (up to Nov 5, 2022) – 14 goals

CONFIRMED TOTAL = 136 GOALS

In his Holywell days

The above list is largely made up of league goals only, so there will be quite a few more to add from cups.

As he was born in 1985, and we only have his stats from 2007/08 onwards, when he was 22, there will be goals from his late teens onwards not accounted for.

There has also been past reference to a season where he was a “prolific scorer for Prestatyn Reserves”.

We don’t have a record of this, so there should be a fair number to include from there.

There were a few years where Griffo took a break from the game, roughly between 2013-17, so that period will not have any stats to produce.

However, if anyone out there may know of any senior goals Ian scored before 2007, or in the years since then which we have not listed here, please get in touch.

He left Sports early in 2018-19 to rejoin Prestatyn Town, but there is no record immediately available to show his goals tally for the Seasiders that season.

At a rough estimate, we are looking at definitely in excess of 200 career goals and possibly quite a few more.

Great to see him still going strong, enjoy him while he is still around doing his thing.

Contact us at: dave@nwsport.co.uk if you can provide any of Griffo’s missing goal stats.
