Champions Bethesda sign off in style – final news of 2022 from North Wales divisions 2, 3 and 4

Bethesda (14) 74-2 St Asaph 2nd XI (1) 71-10

Bethesda signed off the 2022 season in true champions’ style as they thrashed St Asaph seconds by eight wickets to make it 20 wins from 22 starts.

Jonathan Williams’ side finished up lifting the title by a 30-point margin from nearest challengers Menai Bridge seconds, who also secured promotion to Division One.

Several players stood out at different stages for Pesda during the season, but Carwyn L Williams takes star billing for top-scoring with 708 league runs and taking 31 wickets.

Nicholas Parry, who passed the 7,000 career league runs mark in 2022, was second highest run-getter for the firsts this year with 554, while Richie Parry contributed an excellent 469.

In bowling, Ashley Rowlands did best overall with 36 first team league victims.

Last Saturday, Bethesda had Saints 10-4 at one stage, the visitors recovering somewhat to post 74 all out.

Andrew Day claimed 4-13 off nine overs, Jamie Savage 2-14, Richard Lee Williams 2-16 and Ashley Rowlands 2-27.

Pesda then eased to 74-2 in 18.3, Carwyn L Williams dazzling with 53 not out, hitting 11 fours in his 55-ball knock.

Carmel and District (3) 92-9 Menai Bridge 2nd XI (12) 129-8

Already promoted as runners-up, Menai Bridge seconds finished off with a hard-earned win at Pen-y-Gelli.

The visitors won the toss and decided to bat, setting a modest 129-8 off 40 overs, Matt Bixby 31, Derek Johnson 3-31 for the home side.

In response, Carmel were limited to 92-9, Ryan Roberts 44, Edward Gadsby collecting 3-15 and Tomos Cai Rees Jones 2-11 off seven for the islanders.
