Previewing eight of today’s Welsh Cup ties….

Today is qualifying round two day in the JD Welsh Cup.

Here’s a look at some interesting ties (2 pm kick-offs unless stated)…..

CPD Llannefydd v Flint Mountain

One of the best tier 4 teams welcomes a tier 3 newcomer to Cae Llannefydd.

The hosts from the North Wales Coast East Premier Division have won all three games played so far – all at home – with 18 goals scored.

Mountain have won one and lost two in Ardal North West.

Two very decent sides and a close tie in the offing.

CPD Y Glannau v CPD Caer Clwyd

A cracking local derby is in store between two teams operating in tier 5 North Wales Coast East Division One.

Glan Clwyd Sports Centre, St Asaph, is the venue for what should be a competitive affair.

Can Harrison Bellis, who scored five for Y Glannau last weekend, be the man who makes the difference?

Bellis notched a hat-trick in the last round against FC United of Wrexham and is on 10 goals from just three games this term.

Denbigh Town v Cefn Albion (2.30 pm)

Tie of the round? Quite possibly.

After losing their opening two matches, Denbigh have won three in a row, netting 15 times in the process.

They sit second in Ardal North West.

Albion are top of the Ardal North East and remain unbeaten.

This game has been switched to Denbigh as Cefn, originally drawn at home, share a ground with Brickfield Rangers, who are also down to host their Welsh Cup opponents at Clywedog Park and therefore as landlords take precedence.

Gwalchmai v Llandudno Albion

Gwalchmai are off to a flyer in tier 4, currently sitting at the North Wales Coast West Premier Division peak with four straight wins.

The Anglesey side are no strangers to causing cup upsets and in tier 3 Llandudno Albion they face a team coming off a 6-2 midweek drubbing at Denbigh Town.

Albion have been upsetters in the past – who can forget their conquering of the former Rhyl FC in the 2017-18 Welsh Cup – but today they are the ones facing a potential banana skin.

Kinmel Bay v Greenfield

An all-tier 4 battle will see North Wales Coast East Premier side Kinmel Bay host current North East Wales Premier champions Greenfield.

What a corker this could be. Both teams can score goals and it could go either way.

Llandudno Amateurs v Bodedern Athletic (3.30 pm)

The Amateurs are a team full of goals, but as a tier 5 outfit do they have any chance against Bodedern of the tier 3 Ardal North West?

If any team at the bottom level are capable of causing a shock it is someone like the Amateurs, who have brought about some huge giant-killings before.

Bodedern have had a mixed start since their promotion following a phenomenal 2021-22 and they will not be taking the opposition lightly.

Penycae v Ruabon Rovers

Another one where they might just be the sniff of an upset.

Tier 3 Penycae look a solid enough side and should be too strong for Ruabon from the T5 North East Wales Championship.

However, Ruabon are a promising team with some fine players and have banged in lots of goals so far.

Penycae ended Cefn Albion’s 100% record in Ardal North East in midweek so should take plenty of confidence from that.

Prestatyn Sports v Hawarden Rangers

This is a tie where the home side play at the lower level, but it would be no major surprise if they beat the team from a league above.

Sports have began the season powerfully in the tier 4 North Wales Coast East Premier Division and are packed with experience.

However, beware Hawarden Rangers! They rocked Ardal North West by winning 3-0 at Bodedern last weekend and beat Rhydymwyn 1-0 in midweek.

Two teams in form clash at The Meadows.
