A-Mayers-ing! 14-year-old Abbey takes hat-trick in spell of 4-1 in North Wales men’s league

Abbey Mayers

Abbey Mayers of Buckley Cricket Club became the latest female player to make a big impact in the predominantly men’s North Wales League at the weekend.

The 14-year-old took four wickets for ONE run including her first-ever HAT-TRICK for Buckley seconds in their win at Denbigh seconds in Division Three.

Right-arm medium-pace swing bowler Abbey clean bowled all four of her victims, including Denbigh captain Stuart Moulden to close the innings.

Denbigh 2nds were all out for just 59, Simon Williams scoring 40 of those runs, while Jack Gibson collected 4-16 for the visitors.

Nothing could compare to Abbey’s figures, however.

Bucks then eased to 60-2 off 14 overs, with Abbey’s elder sister, Holly, not out at the end.

Abbey is in her third season playing for Buckley’s senior teams and she has currently picked up 14 league wickets. Her previous best figures were 4-8 for the under-15 side versus Mold in 2021.

Abbey has represented Cricket Wales at under-13, U-14 and U-15 levels, as well as the Women’s Development XI, for whom she took 2-19 against Berkshire CCC Women’s Academy last year.

The talented teen also plays for Hawarden Park Women’s 1st XI on Sundays and midweeks in the Cheshire League.

Seventeen-year-old Holly Mayers is part of the same Hawarden side, making 82 not out and taking 3-7 at Ashton-on-Mersey in the first match of the season.

Also a gifted footballer with Northop Hall, for whom she netted 12 goals this season, Holly represents Wales Under-18’s and Buckley 2nd XI men.

With Will Norman, 15, scoring a club league record 146 at the weekend, it’s all happening for the youngsters at Buckley CC!

And another girl in the news….is Bethan Hughes…

Twenty-year-old pace bowler Bethan Hughes recently became the first female to play for Bangor CC men’s 1st XI.

This season has seen Beth claim a career best 8-16 as Bangor men’s 2nd XI beat Llanrwst in a North Wales League Division One match.

She has taken more than 100 league wickets for the club, as well as representing Wales Development at all ages up to women’s.

Llinos Hill….

Teenager Llinos is again impressing with the ball in her third season representing Conwy’s men’s sides at 2nd XI and 3rd XI level.

She has taken 10 league wickets this season, six for the 2nd XI in North Wales League Division Three with a best of 3-7 against Connah’s Quay.

Her finest figures to date are 5-16 against Mochdre 3rd XI in 2020, while she has taken 34 senior wickets for her club in total.

Student Llinos, from Conwy, has been playing the game for 13 years.

She is coach, captain and player for the Ladies team at Conwy and is also a member of Hawarden Park Women.
