PREVIEW: NORTH WALES COAST WEST PREMIER DIVISION CUP FINAL

BODEDERN ATHLETIC v BANGOR 1876

Thursday, May 26, 7.30 pm at School Lane, Cemaes Bay

Ahead of tonight’s final at Cemaes Bay, Bodedern Athletic and Bangor 1876 have a remarkable statistic in common – both teams have scored exactly 200 GOALS in all competitions this season.

Athletic have taken 43 games to reach the landmark and 1876 just 40.

This evening brings the latest adventure for these free-scoring rivals when they face each other in a much-awaited showdown.

League champions Bodedern meet runners-up Bangor 1876 in the final of the North Wales Coast West Premier Division Cup.

Then on Saturday, May 28, at Treborth the teams will clash again in a NWCFA Intermediate Cup semi-final, kick-off 3.30 pm.

The game will be played on the grass pitch as there is already a youth tournament taking place on the 3G.

Whoever wins then faces CPD Y Rhyl 1879 in the final on Tuesday, May 31, at Maes Dulyn, Penygroes, the home of Nantlle Vale FC, 6.30 pm start.

So three absolute corkers on the cards in these final six days of the 2021-22 season.

But first, let’s concentrate on tonight (Thursday) and the Premier Division Cup Final at Cemaes.

Bodedern and Bangor 1876 have locked horns twice already this term and it stands at one win apiece.

Last November, Boded beat 1876 3-2 at home in a thrilling league encounter. It was the Bangor side’s first-ever league defeat.

Earlier this month, 1876 got revenge, seeing off Athletic 3-1 at Treborth. That result prevented Boded going through the entire league campaign unbeaten, but Ricky Williams’ men already had the title sewn with 26 wins and a draw in 27 matches.

Both teams have piled on the goals all season, Boded’s leading pair Marc Evans and Asa Thomas having notched 68 and 58 respectively, while Les Davies is on 36 and Corrig McGonigle 34 for 1876. McGonigle’s tally has come in just 14 games.

Bodedern have scored 200 goals in 43 matches across all competitions – 39 wins, 1 draw, 3 losses

1876 have scored 200 goals from 40 matches across all competitions – 35 wins, 2 draws, 3 losses.

Both teams have been phenomenal all season.
