WEEKEND NORTH WALES FOOTBALL ROUND-UP

NORTH WALES COAST WEST DIVISION ONE CUP QUARTER-FINAL

CPD Mountain Rangers 2 Caergybi 3

Caergybi produced a stunning comeback from two goals down to reach the semi-finals of the Division One Cup.

Rangers got off to a flyer at Cae Gors, goals after 14 and 16 minutes from Dewi Cooke putting them two ahead.

However, the Caergybi comeback began on 29 minutes when captain Louis Chapman made the most of a Tom Hadley assist to make it 2-1.

And three minutes later, the 21-year-old Chapman was on target again with his 49th goal of the season.
Half time 2-2 and all to play for.

It remained all-square until the 79th minute when Elliot Patterson set up George Hibbert for the winner.

A late red card for Owain Griffiths could not tarnish the day for Caergybi, who visit Bethesda Athletic in the semi-final on Wednesday, May 25.

After a nightmare first half which saw them trail 4-1 at the break, Cefni fought back well to push their opponents all the way in the second 45.

Goals from Kyle Williams, Owen Pritchard (2) and Darren Parry had Llanystumdwy in control at the interval.

However, Cefni rallied in the second half and showed what they were made of.

Luke Allaway, Dion Parry and top-scorer Nathan Lewis made the scoresheet for the visitors.

Special mention for Cefni’s young 16-year-old right-back Ashley Jones. In only his second start in senior football, he never looked out of place.

Two goals apiece from Ray Knight and Mathew Beach helped ensure Rhuddlan ended the season on a winning note.

Matty Rees also found the net for Town, while Elliot Croston and Ryan Dodd hit back for Llanfair, who as always put their all into the game.

NWCFA INTERMEDIATE CHALLENGE CUP ROUND TWO

CPD Pwllheli 0 Meliden 0 (Pwllheli won 4-3 on penalties)

It all came down to penalties after these tier 4 sides proved inseparable in normal and extra time.

A long journey for Meliden, but the North Wales Coast East Premier Division side, who have ended the season in great form, did not get what they deserved.

The visitors created much better opportunities, with Scott Stewart a particular danger, but the ball just would not hit the back of the net with home stopper Aaron Smith producing some fine saves.

Meliden’s luck was summed up when an effort deep into extra time looked to have clearly crossed the goal-line, but the official decided otherwise.

Steffan Toplis, Dylan Roberts, Rhys Williams and Owain Paramore converted spot kicks in the shoot-out for Pwllheli.

Finlay Ellan, Luke Astley and Gyorgy Szabo put theirs away for Meliden, but the visitors missed two, while Pwll failed just once.

Always a cruel way to lose a cup tie, but especially the case when you have travelled so far, deserved to win, but ended up beaten on the dreaded penalties.
