NORTH WALES COAST EAST LEAGUE REPORTS – APRIL 2

Premier Division

Prestatyn Sports 2 CPD Llannefydd 2

Rhyl 1879 were the real winners in this battle of their top three rivals who took vital points off each other.

First half goals from Guto Owen and Robin Hughes put Llannefydd in command at the break, but a Sam Lewis OG and James Witherspoon’s 90th minute equaliser earned Sports a share of the spoils.

Meliden 0 Rhuddlan Town 2

A fiery encounter at The Mine ended in Rhuddlan claiming their first league win in five outings.

Ian Davenport edged the visitors ahead on the stroke of half time and Ryan Potts doubled the away total in the 75th minute.

Meliden had Connor Beattie sent off on 79 minutes for two yellow cards.

Division One

Llanelwy Athletic 1 Rhos United 2

A fine away win for Rhos ended Llanelwy’s hopes of winning the championship and ensured Abergele took the title.

Despite only travelling with the bare 11, the visitors produced a great performance to take the points.

The first half was a really good contest, Llanelwy having more possession but Rhos defending brilliantly and attacking on the break with their pace down the wings.

Both teams had good chances, but neither could find the breakthrough before the interval.

Rhos sensed they had an opportunity to cause an upset and within 10 minutes of the second half starting the deadlock ended through Ryan Thomas. He received the ball back to goal in the box from Scott Court, turned his marker and curled a shot around the Llanelwy keeper.

Llanelwy began committing lots of men forward but the visitors stood firm.

United’s two wide players created some brilliant chances with their pace on the break, and on the 65th minute Lewis Sealey beat two players on a counter before squaring the ball for Thomas to double Rhos’ lead.

Rhos were unlucky not to score more, hitting the woodwork twice before Llanelwy managed to pull one back late on through Dylan Murray, but the visitors managed to hold out through a massive effort and some brilliant game management.

Special mention to Ben Wheeler who had to take one for the team and go in goal, but pulled off a number of brilliant saves.

CPD Caer Clwyd 0 Llysfaen 0

No goals but an entertaining encounter at Myddleton College where Llysfaen manager Emlyn Robert Jones marked a rare appearance between the sticks with a clean sheet.

Abergele 8 CPD Henllan 0

An eight-goal salvo from Abergele clinched them the title.

Gele got off to a flyer with first half goals from Chris Davies, Dom Holland, James Lloyd and Anthony Zoezee.

The addition of Zack Laurence and Paul Jaycock at half time enabled the hosts to continue where they left off. Sam Ashton grabbed a goal, Holland got his second and Zoezee bagged two more to complete a well earned hat-trick

The match report appeared on Grassroots North Wales on Saturday.
