NORTH WALES COAST EAST LEAGUE REPORTS – NOVEMBER 6

COOKSON CUP ROUND TWO

Glan Conwy 2 Rhuddlan Town 1

Cup specialists Glan Conwy got the result they wanted after a close battle with Rhuddlan.

Ashley Seddon gave the hosts a third-minute lead at Cae Ffwt and it was not until 72 was on the clock that Jordan Phillips made it 2-0.

Connor Bucknall replied for the visitors, but this was Glan’s day.

Llandudno Junction 1 Penmaenmawr Phoenix 2

This tie stood goal-less until the 77th minute when Harry Parkes-Smith put Junction ahead.

However, the Phoenix rose to the challenge, late goals from Daniel Williams and Matthew Hunt earning them the spoils.

Prestatyn Sports 4 Llannefydd 4 (Llannefydd won 9-8 on pens)

Penalties heartbreak again for Sports who crashed out of the FAW Trophy on spot-kicks to Llandudno Albion back in August.

This time it was the same Llannefydd side which ended the Prestatyn team’s unbeaten league record in October which also knocked John Hargreaves and Sion Williams’ men out of the Cookson Cup.

The teams were level at 4-4 after 90 minutes – Ian Griffiths, James Witherspoon, James Harper and Shane Middleman on target for Sports, Simon Roberts, Llion Morris, Guto Owen and Rhys Llwyd for ‘Nefydd.

Middleman made it 4-3 in the 92nd minute, but Lloyd levelled on 94, necessitating penalties.

The shoot-out finished 9-8 to Llannefydd, goalkeeper Ryan Jones missing the decisive one for Sports. Earlier in the pens contest, Llwyd had failed to score for the visitors and Ryan Brady for the hosts.

Home manager Hargreaves and player Tom Kemp received red cards for the hosts.

Sounds like you could have made a movie out of this one.

CPD Y Rhyl 1879 3 Meliden 0

Two sides in great league form met in the Cookson Cup – and it was hosts 1879 who came out on top.

Rhyl took the lead on 18 minutes after Tom Cain reacted sharpest to a goalkeeper parry, turning the ball into the net in the 18-yard box on his favoured left foot.

In the 43rd minute, Rhyl top-scorer Carl Lamb fired a delightful top left corner strike.

In a fiercely contested second half home manager Gareth Thomas introduced new young signing Leon Atkins after 60 minutes.

Atkins looked incredibly lively, adding pace and energy to the home side front line. And it was Atkins who latched on to a through ball wide left, making no mistake with a right-footed finish across the keeper into the bottom right corner on 81 minutes.

REM JONES CUP ROUND TWO

Cerrigydrudion 5 Betws y Coed 1

Ben Birch gave underdogs Betws a shock early lead, but an Andrew Hession hat-trick turned the tables in Cerrig’s favour.

Tegid Williams and Llion Jones (pen) completed the job.

Llanelwy Athletic 2 Rhyl Dragons 2 (Llanelwy won 4-1 on pens)

Dragons gave Llanelwy a tremendous battle before going out on spot-kicks.

Jack Gibbon and Barry Roach struck for the visitors, Steve Kirk and Joel Rowlands having twice put Athletic in front.

Rhos United 1 Llysfaen 4

Connor Morris scored a hat-trick – including two first half penalties – but was also sent off for two yellow cards on a mixed afternoon for the Llysfaen striker.

Substitute Craig Bond also struck for the away side, Arran Hands with a late consolation spot-kick for an unusually outplayed Rhos.

PREMIER DIVISION

Llandyrnog United 3 Bro Cernyw 4

Cernyw celebrated their first league win of the season as they edged a seven-goal thriller at Cae Nant.

Rhidian Williams (28 and 76 minutes), Will Hughes (45) and Ianto Roberts (57) were the away team net-finders, Sean James (32), David Lawson-Cooke (34) and Garmon Hafal (43) for Llandyrnog, who led 3-1 late in the first half.

Dyrny also had Deian Williams red-carded in the 90th minute.

Mochdre Sports 3 Llansannan 1

Kai Davies (left) scored twice for Mochdre

On the day before his 28th birthday, captain Kai Davies grabbed a double for Mochdre.

It was a scrappy, hard-fought victory for Sports in difficult conditions.

A goal in each half from Davies and a neat finish from Owen Woodfield to register his first for the club was enough to see off Llansannan, who replied via Gwion Evans.

DIVISION ONE

Llandudno Amateurs 3 Caer Clwyd 2

A Mike Chapman double and Sam Maddock single were enough to bank the points for Llandudno Amateurs, who are now a clear second in the table.

Dan Williams and Keiran Kendrick responded for Caer Clwyd, who also had Fran Roberts sent off.

Clwyd always give a good battle, they can feel proud of their first season so far.

NFA 5 Rhyl All Stars 2

Liam Bowers scored a 15-minute hat-trick for winners NFA in the second half of this all-Rhyl derby.

Steve Falvey and Paul Jones were also on the mark for the hosts, Shane Roberts and Joe Smith replying for All Stars, who led 2-1 at half time.

Y Glannau 0 Henllan 0

What can you say about a 0-0 draw with no info on the App except substitutions?

Well….nothing. Point apiece.
