Ben Evans of Mochdre Sports – take a bow son!

Mochdre Sports defender Ben Evans will surely never score a better goal than the one he came up with on October 9, 2021, in a 5-1 home win over Bro Cernyw

If you are going to score your first goal in three seasons you might as well make it an absolute world-beater.

Ben Evans take a bow.

The Mochdre Sports defender hit a stunning long-ranger even Cristiano Ronaldo would be proud of in Saturday’s 5-1 home victory over Bro Cernyw.

In the 22nd minute of the North Wales Coast East Premier Division clash at Swan Road, with the hosts leading 1-0, Evans let fly from all of 45 yards with a first-time, instinctive missile, beating keeper Joe Edwards all ends up as the ball rocketed into the net over his head.

The reaction of the spectators said it all, with a huge gasp given out as Evans struck the ball with pure venom.

There was no fluke about this goal. It was 100 percent meant and if there was such a thing as North Wales Football Goal of the Season, this would be a prime contender.

Even more remarkably, it was Ben’s first goal in three seasons.

Mochdre Sports are no strangers to special goals.

Back in May 2018, Jordan Phillips hit a 60-yard, 90th minute winner for the team in a 3-2 victory over Penmaenmawr Phoenix.

Cameraman Tom Crofts captured that magic moment.

And even in Saturday’s game, there was another absolute pearler scored by the home side’s Alex Williams, who rounded off a mesmerising run at the Cernyw defence with the coolest of finishes.

Maradona and Salah rolled into one.

Perhaps we should also mention that Chris Lloyd scored a hat-trick!

It is fantastic that in this day and age so many clubs at grassroots level are filming their games and catching special goals like Evans’s.

Years back, we could only go on newspaper reports or goal descriptions in the pub, which by closing time had been exaggerated tenfold.

Big thanks to Tref Jones of CPD Bro Cernyw, also a league official, for drawing this goal to my attention.

“It’s the best goal I’ve seen from distance,” said Tref.

Whatever Ben Evans achieves in the rest of his career, the day he scored a truly world-class goal for Mochdre Sports on October 9, 2021, will always be remembered.
