Cymru North: Sean Eardley’s Llandudno win derby at Colwyn Bay in front of 1,020

Sean Eardley paid tribute to the character shown by his Llandudno side in fighting back from 1-0 down at half time to claim all three points at Llanelian Road, where a crowd of 1,020 watched the local derby.

Tudno made it seven league wins on the bounce and no defeats in 10 to remain a point behind leaders Airbus UK Broughton.

Although James Kirby’s goal had the Seagulls in front at the break, second half strikes from former Bay players Gaz Evans and Marc Williams turned the tables.

“It was a fantastic victory – the lads were outstanding to a man,” said a delighted Eardley after the game.

“Colwyn Bay are a decent outfit, well-drilled and we needed to show real character in the second half to come back.

“We started the second half really well; got ourselves back in it and then dealt brilliantly with the threat Colwyn Bay posed when they went behind.

“That’s one for the travelling fans, who were brilliant for us today. It’s always nice to get three points in a derby.”

Kirby put the Seagulls in front on 15 minutes with a volley from Tom McCready’s free kick.

McCready was unlucky not to double the lead when another free kick hit a post.

Tom Creamer also had a shot blocked and early in the second half Kirby’s goal-bound effort blocked by a defender.

The game changed, however, after a serious-looking injury to Creamer.

Within five minutes of that lengthy delay, Bay conceded a penalty and although Shaun Cavanagh’s spot kick was saved, Evans equalised from the following goalmouth scramble.

Marc Williams made it 2-1 with a header from a corner and although the Bay pressed hard for an equaliser in the closing minutes, they could not save the game.

Airbus remain at the summit after a hard-fought win in Saturday’s top-of-the-table clash at The Globe.

Goals from Oli Lanceley, Adam Davies and Gaz Edwards helped the Wingmakers return to winning ways following last week’s two cup exits.

The visitors edged ahead after just two minutes.

Some defensive errors by the Trotters allowed Lanceley to pick up the ball on the edge of the box, sneak past keeper Josef Makaruk and slot into an empty net

In the 25th minute Lanceley was clipped in the box, referee Aled Williams pointed to the spot and Davies stepped up to score his 16th goal in the league and 19th in all competitions.

Buckley were 2-0 down at half time, but did manage to halve the deficit midway through the second period, when Connor Littler netted from short range.

Airbus confirmed the result with six minutes to go. A well delivered corner from Joe Palmer found Gaz Edwards, who headed home from the back post.

Disaster for bottom side Llangefni as they crashed to a six-goal home defeat against a Prestatyn outfit which ended a barren run in some style.

Ryan Kehoe set the ball rolling with an 11th minute penalty and Paul Johnson made it 2-0 before half time.

In the second half Prestatyn went to town, Sam Spridgeon, Callum Roberts, Kehoe with his second and Patrick Hamid completing the rout.

Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant 2 (Thomas 64, Arkwright pen 84)
Conwy Borough 3 (McGonigle 24, Williams 36, Whelan 54)

After storming into a three-goal lead Conwy had to hold on for the three points as Llanrhaeadr staged a late fightback.

Corrig McGonigle’s sixth goal of the season on 24 minutes put the Tangerines in front before Meilir Williams added a second before half time.

Craig Whelan added a third on 54 minutes but Sam Thomas gave the home side hope by replying after 64.

Frankie Arkwright’s 84th minute penalty set up a nervy finish for the visitors, but they managed to prevail.

Second-place Guilsfield remain the only unbeaten side in the league, Jamie Hyne’s 16th minute goal proving enough to take the spoils.
