Cup thrills in North East Wales Football League as Chirk Town hit ruthless form

Nicky Williams plundered a hat-trick for Chirk Town

TOP MARK UNIFORMS PREMIER CUP

Chirk Town were in gr-eight form as they hammered Lex XI 8-0 in the opening round of the North East Wales League Premier Cup.

Nicky Williams banged in a hat-trick, Tom Freeman a double, Aaron Davies, James Williams and Anthony Jones one apiece.

Dean Hyland’s first-half double, including a penalty, helped Greenfield get past Hawarden Rangers 2-0.

Lewis George, Ben Duffy and Kurt Issac ensured Cefn Mawr Rangers were 3-0 up at half time against Halkyn and Flint Mountain. In the second half, Sam Jones hit back for the hosts, but 3-1 Rangers was how it ended.

New Brighton Villa pipped Mynydd Isa Spartans 2-1, Scott Davies and Lewis Jones giving the Yellers a two-goal interval advantage.

Samuel Riley replied for the Spartans early in the second period, but later missed a penalty.

Dan McGinnis and Barry Torrence (pen) led FC Queen’s Park to a 2-0 success over Coedpoeth United with a goal in each half.

THE TWO COUNTIES CUP

Championship clubs compete in this cup and there was a good 1-0 win for CPD Sychdyn at Caerwys, Nathan Large with the 51st minute decider.

Jordan Jones delivered a double in Penyffordd Lions’ 3-1 triumph at AFC Bagillt.

Richard Lawrence also featured on the away scoresheet, while for the hosts, Thomas Hyndman missed a first-half penalty before making it 1-1 on 52 minutes.

Jake Leonard, Gary McConnell and Will Leonard (2) guided Connah’s Quay Town to a 4-1 beating of Brymbo Lodge, Matthew Harrison on target for the visitors.

Postponed: Ruabon Rovers v FC United of Wrexham (to be played September 25 due to shortage of officials).

THE RESERVE CUP

Just one tie in this one but it was a thriller.

Castell Alun Colts beat Lex XI 2-0 on penalties after the match itself finished 3-3.

Louis Pritchard (2 pens) and Daniel Woosey were Alun’s scorers,

Kacper Wojciech, Joshua Hancock and Callum Parlour kept Lex, who were 2-0 up in the first half, in the hunt.

Postponed: Coedpoeth United v Llay Welfare Colts (to be played September 25 due to shortage of officials).
