JD Cymru Premier midweek review – was Caernarfon’s Daniel Gosset robbed of a goal?

Was it over the line or wasn’t it?

That was the burning question to emerge from Tuesday’s Cymru Premier clash at Deeside Stadium between Connah’s Quay Nomads and Caernarfon Town.

With the score at 1-1 in the second half, the Canaries in-form midfielder Daniel Gosset hit a beautiful left-foot shot which beat Quay keeper Oliver Byrne all ends up, but the ball walloped the underside of the crossbar and bounced back out.

Caernarfon were adamant it had crossed the line at the time, but a one-angle TV replay showed that probably not all of the ball went over the whitewash.

Town took a 28th minute lead when Rob Hughes played a sublime pass into Darren Thomas, who worked the ball onto his right foot and finished clinically beyond Byrne.

The visitors should have gone two-up when Thomas had a much easier chance than the one he scored from.

A deflected Noah Edwards cross from the left came to the “Cofi Messi” who steered the ball onto his left foot, but somehow missed a gaping goal.

Nomads almost levelled before the break when a George Horan header from a Jamie Mullan cross missed by inches.

The start of the second half saw the Cymru Premier champions on the attack, Ryan Harrington’s 20-yarder going very close.

It was all-square in the 50th minute, but the goal had an element of fortune about it.

Byron Harrison had a volley blocked on the line and the ball was cleared towards the right touchline.

It looked to be going out for a throw-in, but Nomads defender John Disney refused to give the ball up and retrieved it before it went out of play.

Disney then advanced to the byline and from the acutest of angles his cross cleared the outstretched hand of Jakub Ojrzynski and ended up in the net.

Was Disney trying to score? Perhaps, but regardless his determination to reach a ball heading out of play resulted arguably in a reward he deserved.

Then came that Gosset moment which divided opinion. No goal.

Nonetheless, a great point for Caernarfon.

The last two teams with a 100 percent record in the league this season met when The New Saints hosted surprise package Flint Town United.

And it was the 13-time champions who shaded the game 1-0, Adrian Cieslewicz converting a Jordan Williams swirling cross at the back post in the 49th minute.

Williams had earlier hit the upright in the first half with a dipping delivery from the right.

TNS could have clinched it when Declan McManus was through on goal, but keeper Ryan Woods produced a great stop.

Flint boss Neil Gibson was disappointed with the manner his team conceded, but was otherwise full of praise for a side which lost 10-0 at Park Hall last season before he became manager.

Bala Town had a 27th minute Alex Darlington own goal to thank for earning a 1-0 success at Aberystwyth Town.

Badly struggling Cefn Druids were thrashed 5-0 at Newtown.
