Get along to Connah’s Quay CC on Sunday as the club reaches a century!

Connah’s Quay Cricket Club is 100 years old.

And their landmark birthday is being celebrated with a special event tomorrow (Sunday, August 29).

The Team of 2021 will take on some of the best of Connah’s Quay CC from the 1990’s in a challenge match at Central Park, starting at 2 pm.

People are asked to start gathering at the ground from around 1 pm.

Some special surprises are promised for what looks sure to be something not to be missed.

Great players of the 1990’s to represent the club inciuded Glenn Chambers, David Powell, Karl Evans and Matt Needham.

Connah’s Quay have won the North Wales League Premier Division title once, back in 2011.

South African Martin Burger scored 1,115 runs that season, while David Fox and Darren Jones also showed prolific form with the bat.

Gavin Parry, Luke Bennett, Wes Gillam and Darren Leach were the leading wicket-takers of 10 years ago.

Quay were also crowned Division One (then the top division) champions in 1988 and 1993.

Connah’s Quay are an ambitious community club who currently have four senior XI teams.

Their 1st XI and 2nd XI compete in the NWCL on a Saturday, the thirds play in the Sunday East Division and the midweek team take part in the Chester T20.

Four junior teams – Under 9’s, Under 11’s, Under 13’s and Under 15’s play in the North East Wales North Junior Cricket League.

The club also enters the Welsh Cup, Flintshire Knock-Outand T20 Cup competitions.

Sunday’s event will include music, fireworks and a BBQ. People are invited to attend and share a memory, enjoy a drink and meet current and past players, as well as witness the club development, from around 1 pm.
