Wrexham AFC Women have announced an exciting double signing today.

Striker Rosie Hughes and goalkeeper Delyth Morgan have joined the team, which will compete in the new elite Tier 2 North this season.

Hughes, 24, is one of the most prolific goalscorers in North Wales football.

In 2019-20, she scored 18 in all competitions for Denbigh Town, who only played nine matches in a much-disrupted campaign due to the weather and later coronavirus outbreak.

The former Colwyn Bay, Kinmel Bay and Llandudno striker netted double hat-tricks in cup ties against Northop Hall and Mountain Rangers.

She also scored four times versus Northop Hall in the league and notched single goals in cup clashes with Connah’s Quay Nomads and Wrexham.

In previous seasons, Hughes was regularly top-scorer for Llandudno in the Welsh Premier League. She netted five times in Tudno’s run to the 2015-16 Welsh Cup final and scored 15 goals in all that season.

In her younger years, the Colwyn Bay-based forward represented Wales and was in the cracking Kinmel Bay team which met Cardiff City in the 2011-12 Under-16 Welsh Cup final.

She also won the North Wales Women’s League title as a teenager with Kinmel Bay back in 2012-13.

Delyth Morgan

Morgan, 25, is a former Liverpool, Everton and Wrexham goalkeeper who has also represented Wales up to under-19 level.

She returns for a second spell at Wrexham where she previously represented the club in the Welsh Premier League.

On the playing front, she was last seen in the Rhyl Ladies team of 2018-19. The team resigned from the Welsh Premier in August 2019.

Morgan is also a highly-qualified goalkeeping coach and holds a UEFA A Goalkeeper’s Coaching Licence.

She has coached at Cefn Druids and is currently head of academy goalkeeping at Connah’s Quay Nomads and Wales Under-19s ‘keeping coach.
