Grassroots football is back!
The eyes of North Wales were on the result from School Lane tonight as Cemaes Bay welcomed Llannerchymedd for the first-ever fixture of the new North Wales Coast West League Division One.
It was a worthy curtain-raiser, a good contest between two teams from Anglesey who know each other well.
The deadlock was broken two minutes before the interval.
Llan’s Matthew Jones fed a through ball to Ben Hughes, who took it in his stride and slotted into the bottom corner.
After that it was a close encounter between two evenly-matched sides.
In the second half, the Cemaes keeper Dan Jones made a excellent save from a looping shot from by Chris Bennett
Matthew Jones also had a deflected shot that hit the crossbar in the second half.
Cemaes had their moments, too, and with their ability look capable of troubling plenty of teams this season.
Llannerchymedd delivered some great news on the eve of tonight’s game with three new signings secured.
Striker Llion Vaughn Jones has landed from Cpd Gwalchmai, an excellent addition to Llan’s strike force, while left back/winger Gwion Owen is a new face from Trearddur Bay Bulls.
Last but not least, left back Ryan Thomas Jones arrives at Tan Parc from Cemaes Bay.
Both Llion and Ryan have previously been part of the Llannerchymedd football family.
Ryan was an integral part of Medd’s successful climb from the Anglesey League through to the Gwynedd League and Welsh Alliance Division Two.
