Best birthday wishes to ever-smiling Ashleigh Jones

Amlwch Town’s likeable midfielder Ashleigh Jones celebrates her birthday today.

Renowned for her big smiles and great sense of humour, Holyhead girl Ashleigh nonetheless takes her football very seriously.

Over the past couple of seasons she has been part of Amlwch Town Women’s rise to prominence.

She played a role in the Anglesey’s side’s first-ever trophy success when they lifted the North Wales Women’s League Supplementary Cup in 2018-19.

Ashleigh produced a big-hearted effort on the right of midfield which helped inspire Town to a 2-1 victory over Wrexham at Belle Vue, Rhyl.

It was a night no-one present will ever forget.

Then last season Ashleigh was in the Amlwch squad which lifted the North Wales League Division Two title, emerging unbeaten over nine games in a shortened campaign because of Covid-19.

Ashleigh has also been helping the development of newly-formed Trearddur Bay Bulls Ladies.

The team played in the North Wales Recreational League last season and hope to continue their progress in the 2021-22 campaign.

Ashleigh has been a football achiever from a young age.

In 2007, she became the first female captain to lift the Albert Owen Shield when leading Holyhead’s Ysgol Llanfawr to victory over Ysgol Llanfechell in the final.

Schools across the island took part, so it was quite a feather in the cap of Ashleigh and her team-mates.

Their coach was Gethyn Robins, then a teacher at Llanfawr and also a former Cemaes Bay goalkeeper.

Ashleigh shares the same enthusiasm for the game as all of her Amlwch team-mates. It could be said she typifies the team.

She also began to wear glasses in 2013. 🤓😎🤩😁🤓😎🤩😁🤓😎🤩😁

What adventures await Ashleigh Jones in the next football season?

That remains to be seen. In the meantime we wish her a very happy birthday.
