Super-fit footballer Jamie McDaid ran 48 miles in 48 hours and raised more than £1,500 for sufferers of a rare condition that progressively damages parts of the nervous system.
Jamie, 26, of Caernarfon, began the 4x4x48 Running Challenge at 10 am on January 29 and by the same time on January 31 he had completed it.
The Motor Neurone Disease Association has benefited to the tune of £1,605 thanks to Jamie’s fantastic effort.
He set a target of £1,500 and received donations from 143 people.
Motor Neurone Disease is an uncommon condition affecting the brain and nerves without a current cure.
Symptoms include muscle weakness, twitches, slurred speech and difficulty swallowing.
There’s no cure for MND, but there are treatments to help reduce the impact it has on a person’s daily life.
All of Jamie’s 12 four-mile runs started and finished from his home and followed current Covid rules.
His times ranged from 26.48 (his penultimate one) to 29.31.
After completing the challenge, Jamie posted on social media: “What a hard challenge that was !! Worth it from the start till the finish !!
“Thanks for the donations, as I say it’s really appreciated and shows how kind everyone is.
“Also without saying I had a personal target of running the 12 runs under 30 minutes which I achieved.”
As well as being respected for his tremendous dedication to fitness, Jamie is also a renowned footballer across North Wales.
A Welsh Under-18 schoolboy international, he spent time at Porthmadog, Caernarfon Town and Holyhead Hotspur before signing for Bangor City in January 2013.
He made 31 Welsh Premier appearances for City, 26 of them as a substitute and scored two goals, before returning to Caernarfon in August 2014.
McDaid later had spells at Holywell Town, as well as Aberystwyth Town in the Welsh Premier, then signed for Llandudno in 2019.
A pacy winger, he represented Bangor in the Europa League, featuring in both legs of their 2014/15 tie against Stjarnan of Iceland.
Jamie returned to former club Porthmadog a year ago.
