Hockey is born on Grassroots North Wales!

Bangor players line-up before the start

Here is our first-ever hockey report on Grassroots North Wales – hopefully it is not the last !

Reports can be sent to dave@nwsport.co.uk

The following report was provided by Bangor player Lottie Pleasant

Bangor City Hockey Club 0

Eirias Hockey Club 1

The first game since March saw mainly youth players being fielded by both teams.

Despite the horrendous wind and rain, everyone was very excited to be playing again.

It was also the first game for Bangor since the ex-Ardudwy players joined, and it was fantastic to see the standard that the newly-formed team are playing at, so much promise for the future.

The two sides were very evenly matched, and Eirias had to defend multiple short corners.

But their strong defence and great goalkeeping kept the score to 0-0 until the last 5 minutes.

Then a quick break saw Eirias putting pressure on, and unfortunately for Bangor, the Colwyn Bay side scored in the last few minutes.

But the score and the weather didn’t dampen the City spirits.

The young Bangor team played really well and will continue to develop over the coming months.

Despite the COVID related safety measures, it almost felt like normal and everyone is looking forward to further friendly matches over the coming weeks.

Bangor Team

Cerys Parry (GK), Cerys Jones, Nanw Jones (Capt) Gwen Rhys-Williams, Emilie-Jo Griffiths, Megan Roberts, Lottie Pleasant, Nia Culley, Siwan Jones, Mared Jones, Anna Solash, Holly Brown, Lotte Hamilton, Ella Owen (all U18 except Mared who was 19).

Anyone interested in joining Bangor Hockey Club (any ages, ability and previous experience welcomed) please contact Rhian Culley 07923369859.
