Welsh Colleges girls were an awesome bunch of players !

Welsh Colleges women’s squad from 2014-15 with coaches. Picture: Laura Turnbull

We’ve had a fantastic response to our Welsh Colleges women’s team photo from 2014-15.

This morning we didn’t have the names of all the players featured – only about half.

Now we have them all, and are delighted to have received more photos of that squad!

Special thanks to Ffion Price, Tayla Gould, Charley Smith and Laura Turnbull for their help.

Also, Marc Lloyd Williams, Welsh Colleges men’s U-19 team manager, for providing names of the women’s squad, and, of course, Ffion Mair Roberts for providing the original photo.

Thanks to Laura, we know that this Welsh team recorded a fantastic 8-0 win against England Colleges at St Georges Park and beat Australia Colleges 1-0 at USW.

Has a Wales team ever beaten an England side so emphatically at football I wonder?

Laura, a sport and exercise science graduate from Wrexham, suffered a knee injury while at university and due to work commitments has been unable to play football since. We really hope that changes Laura.

We also discovered through Laura that the team manager of Welsh Colleges was Andrew Stokes.

On top of the North Wales girls we mentioned earlier, also in the squad was Amy Roberts, now one of the North Wales Women’s League’s best players with Pwllheli, and also Nia Jones.

Ffion Price currently plays for Cardiff City FC Women in the Welsh Premier and is a B licence coach.

So, the team line up in the picture below is…..

Back (left to right): Nia Jones (Coleg Menai), Alaw Davies-Smith (Deeside College), Shannon Evans (Cardiff & Vale), Zoe Hatch (Gower College), Tayla Gould (Cardiff & Vale), Chloe Boxall (Neath College), Katy Hosford (Neath College), Gemma Evans (Merthyr College), Chloe Lloyd (Merthyr College).

Front (l-r): Ffion Mair Roberts (Coleg Menai), Amy Roberts (Coleg Menai), Ffion Price (St David’s College), Charley Smith (Coleg Menai), Alana Murphy (Coleg Gwent), Sophie Hancock (Coleg Gwent), Laura Turnbull (Yale College), Ellie Wenger (Cardiff & Vale), Sophie Cardy (Neath College).

Loved this trip down Memory Lane. Let’s do it again soon!
