My 5 Best Goals – Marc Williams

Marc Williams in action for Llandudno

Marc Williams has scored quite a few goals in his career, so choosing his best five must have proved quite a task.

But he’s managed it – and happily he’s sharing his choices with Grassroots North Wales readers.

Marc was a star performer in Llandudno’s first three seasons in the Welsh Premier.

The 32-year-old attacking midfielder/striker is Tudno’s record marksman in the WPL, having netted 27 goals in 80 starts.

He now plays for WPL club Aberystwyth Town.

Williams joined the Seasiders ahead of the club’s debut 2015/16 term in the WPL and scored 16 times in 32 appearances. He was named WPL Player of the Season as Llandudno finished third and qualified for Europe at the first attempt.

He left Maesdu Park at the end of 2017-18 and after a stint with Bangor City returned to the WPL in January 2019 with Aber.

A Wales Under-21 international, Williams made 40 Football League appearances for Wrexham.

After scoring 17 goals from a total of 80 appearances in all competitions for the Dragons, he switched to Kidderminster Harriers on a permanent deal after a loan spell before the start of the 2011/12 season.

He then joined Chester, where he helped win promotion in 2013, following a short spell at Northwich Victoria.

Williams signed for Colwyn Bay in October 2013 and moved to Llandudno in June 2015.

Marc has played for Wales at under-17, U-19, U-21 and semi-pro level.

My hat-trick goal for Wrexham v Eastbourne in the Conference.

It was the 92nd minute and I rolled a player on the half way line, and ran towards the defenders.

I went past one defender, then another, then was taken slightly wide, chipped inside another defender and put it in near post to make it 5-0 and my first senior hat-trick.

2 Colwyn Bay 3 Oxford City 5 – October 2014

In Conference North – was on the edge of the box and defender headed it out, I moved and was roughly 25 yards out and just struck it on the volley and it flew into the top corner.

Probably the sweetest ball I’ve ever struck.

3 Port Talbot v Llandudno – Welsh Premier

We had a throw in and we had worked on the movement in training to create the space inside.

The ball bounced and I just struck it and it flew across into the top corner.

Technically probably the best goal I’ve scored as the angle was very tough.

Ball clipped in to me, I chested it, rolled a defender and bent it into top corner at the Racecourse for a 1-0 win.

5 Cefn Druids 1 Aberystwyth Town 2 – Welsh Premier, August 2019

After losing 10-1 to TNS on the Monday we needed a good reaction and it was nice as skipper to score a sensational goal.

Paulo Mendes teed me up and from 25 yards I just struck through the ball and it faded away from the keeper and went into the top corner.
