Bangor 1876 reveal big plans for female football

CPD Merched Bangor 1876 Under-14s are just one of the promising teams at the club

Bangor 1876 plan to enter a team in the new North Wales Coast Women’s Football League this season.

The new league will come under Tier 3 in the revamped Welsh women’s football pyramid.

Bangor 1876’s announcement of beginning a women’s side follows the recent news Bangor City will do the same.

This will lead to keen competition for players in the Bangor area and surrounding region.

Today 1876 revealed it will soon be in a position to declare its coaching team and begin the registration of players for 2020-21.

The starting-up of a women’s team is just part of a five-year plan the club has devised for female football.

Secretary, Dafydd Evans, gave the following statement to the 1876 website today:

What have we achieved so far?

We have established under-10, under-12, under-14 and under-16 teams, registering over 70 players from Anglesey and Gwynedd and achieved an FAW Trust Bronze Accreditation Award. The u10’s are playing in friendlies and tournaments, with the other age groups playing in the North Wales Girls’ Football League.
We have at least two FAW qualified coaches per age group and parent representatives for each group that sit on the committee.
We have established links with Ysgol Friars and Tryfan as they develop their schools’ girls’ teams.
We have created links with Bangor University has seen three students, who play for the University’s Women’s Team coach our u12’s and u14’s; great role models for our players.
We’ve been supported on our journey by our sponsors Selectrical, Proweld Fabrication, Lucror Consulting and Anglesey Aggregates

The future?

We have a five-year plan in place to grow the club, providing competitive opportunities in football in the local area.
Year 1 was about establishing the governance, recruiting for 10’s through to 16’s and achieving a FAW Trust Bronze Accreditation Award. We were due to form an u8’s when domestic football in Wales was suspended.
The current situation has proved challenging in initiating our plans for Year 2, however, everything is in place to hit the ground running once football resumes.
We have applied to enter a Senior Team into the Tier 3 NWCFA Women’s League and are able to announce the coaching team in the very near future. We will be registering players once the registration window opens.
Providing coaching opportunities is one of the club aims and we have done this by recruiting coaches from the University and local secondary schools, sponsoring them through the FAW Coaching Pathway, again, more to follow on this.
We have strengthened our links with Bangor 1876 and we will be tapping in to the wealth of coaching experience within the club to assist us in coaching the girls and mentor our newly qualified coaches.
Year 2 will therefore see us being able to provide a player pathway from u8’s through to a Senior team. This will put us in a strong position to achieve a FAW Trust Gold Accreditation Award this coming season.
As the women’s game develops in Wales, the FAW have plans to form an under-19’s Development League in 2021/22 and that is the natural next step for us.
The 1876 family is expanding and if you would like to be part of it, please get in touch by e-mailing cpdmbangor@gmail.com.
