Magical Football Memories: Trearddur Bay FC in the 1980s

Many in North Wales football will know Steve Griffith mainly for his long-standing involvement with CPD Caerwys.

However, in his younger years, the serving police officer was a regular face in Anglesey soccer circles, chiefly with Trearddur Bay FC.

Knowing how much we love a bit of nostalgia here at Grassroots North Wales, Steve shared some photos of Bay senior and youth sides of the 1980s.

This is a follow-up from a recent team picture we published of the short-lived Silver Bay Caravan Park FC from the 80s.

How many faces do you recognise from these brilliant shots?

I remember Brian Lawlor and Mark Grimes as outstanding players from primary school. Brian, of course, went on to become a highly-qualified referee.

Sammy Spears is another familiar face to me. I remember watching him play for Holyhead Town in the 1970s.

I am aware Ken Tyrer has done fantastic things for junior football and also played the senior game, but he is more recognisable to me for an impressive amateur acting career!

Huge thanks to Steve Griffith for these magnificent photographs.
