Substitute Jack Kenny’s 56th minute goal was enough to secure Prestatyn a place in the Welsh Cup semi-finals where they will meet the The New Saints.

A crowd of 595 were at the Essity Stadium to see the Cymru North leaders edge past the second-place side in that league in a feisty tussle where 10 players were cautioned – seven from Flint.

The 2013 Welsh Cup winners Prestatyn settled the better and had the ball in the net in the fourth minute through Michael Parker from a Zebb Edwards free kick, but the goal was ruled out for an infringement.

From there, the Silkmen took over and dominated most of the first half.

Jon Rushton produced a save from Dominic McHugh before coming up with a fantastic stop to deny Richie Foulkes in the 19th minute.

Home side top-scorer Mark Cadwallader then got in behind the Seasiders defence, but once more Rushton thwarted the hosts.

Flint went close again when Stuart Jones headed just off target from a Tom Kemp corner.

In the latter stages of the half, Prestatyn began to look more effective, the brilliant Jordan Davies chipping home keeper Aaron Jones, but then called back for offside when set to find the net.

Home glovesman Jones then bravely denied Alex Jones with his feet and near to the break Myles Hart blasted over following a cross from Jordan Davies.

Half-time: 0-0

The start of the second half saw Flint create another chance when Cadwallader was through, but could only lash into the side-netting.

The introduction of Kenny on 52 minutes changed the tie in Prestatyn’s favour.

Former Nomads striker Kenny released Jordan Davies, who was foiled by a fine Jones save.

Then on 56 minutes came the breakthrough. Flint’s defence dawdled, Jordan Davies produced the flick on and Kenny finished calmly to end the stalemate.

The visitors’ confidence now grew, and they threatened on other occasions before Flint eventually managed a retort, Callum Bratley firing a decent effort across the face of goal.

The hosts applied some late pressure, Cadwallader missing a good opportunity from a long throw before having a penalty appeal turned down, but Prestatyn held on for the victory their general second half dominance deserved. It was their third win over Flint this season.
