Netball: Arfon Ladies clinch 13th league title

Well done to Division One champions Arfon Ladies

Arfon Ladies clinched their 13th league title when they were crowned champions of Gwynedd and Anglesey Netball League Division One on Wednesday night.

The most successful team in the league’s history wrapped up top spot with a game to go following a resounding 24-14 victory over second-placed Menai Mavericks.

It is always a keenly-contested affair between these two teams but Arfon established an 8-3 lead after a brilliant opening quarter.

Mavericks matched their opponents 5-5 in the second before Arfon extended their advantage in the third to eight goals at 19-11.

Menai put up a good battle in the last to cut the deficit to five, but Arfon responded back and finished with a flurry.

Tim o Walis defeated Pwllheli 25-19.

Walis dominated the first quarter 9-2, but Pwllheli’s defence started putting the pressure on the opposition shooters in the second. Nonetheless, Walis still extended their lead by an extra goal.

Nothing separated them in the third quarter and it was not until the last that Pwllheli won a session, but it was too late to influence the outcome.

Aran from Dolgellau recorded a 12-goal win over Dyffryn Ladies.

A highly contested match between these teams saw a convincing performance from Aran in the first and then they slightly edged the second.

Dyffryn Ladies had a real go in the third, winning it 5-3 and trimming the arrears to four goals.

Aran kept their composure in the final quarter to secure a comfortable win.

Porthmadog gave Primos a hard game. Port went 4-1 up in the opener before Primos could respond and it finished 6-6.

However, Primos ended up comfortable winners by the end of the match.
