Welsh Alliance: Junction and Aberffraw upset odds in Mawddach Cup

Llandudno Junction of Welsh Alliance Division Two pulled off the result of the day in the Mawddach Cup by winning 3-2 at Llandudno Albion.

Dave Maddock struck first for the team placed third in Division One, but Harry Parkes-Smith levelled for a 1-1 half time scoreline.

Ricky Jones restored the home lead after 54 minutes, but on the hour the Railwaymen, 11th in Division Two, were back on terms through Jack Williams.

With debutant Ryan Boddis outstanding, the Junction produced an 84th minute winner through Jack Nettleton to secure one of the team’s greatest results of recent times.

Giant-killers Aberffraw were at it again as the Division Two outfit pipped Division One Prestatyn Sports 2-1 at Cae Cynlas.

Geraint Jones and Liam Williams gave Berffro a 2-0 half time lead, home keeper and man of the match Caron Hughes producing a penalty save to keep the away side scoreless.

Ian Dunn pulled one back for Sports via a free kick on the hour, but the hosts held on for a fine win, Hughes pulling off a magnificent double stop in the final minute.

Top-scorer Robert Jones came up with a late winner for Holyhead Hotspur in a 2-1 verdict over Penrhyndeudraeth.

Deian Parry also struck for the Holy Islanders, Stephen Hughes replying for Penrhyn.

Jacob Walker banged in a hat-trick as Denbigh Town caned St Asaph City 6-0 away in a largely one-sided local derby.

Mark Roberts, Paul Fleming and Danny Clarke also found the net for the visitors.

Llanrug United whipped Nantlle Vale 4-1 away, Kevin Lloyd (2), Carl Griffiths and Gavin Lloyd Jones for the visitors, Rob Daniels the sole home marksman.

Gaerwen won on penalties at Penmaenmawr Phoenix after a 1-1 draw.

Morgan Roberts scored direct from a corner for Pen and Andy Wannop found the target for the eventually triumphant Anglesey visitors.

Bodedern Athletic were in ruthless form as they cast aside fellow islanders Pentraeth 8-0.

Aidan Clark (4), Ryan Taylor (2) and Dean Redmond (2) shared the riches.

Sam Jones netted four times in Greenfield’s 5-1 decision at Pwllheli, Connor Hughes also on the scoresheet, Paul Lewis for the home side.

Ynyr Clwyd and Rhys Jones claimed the goals for Llannefydd in a 2-1 success at Y Felinheli, Iwan Owen responding.

Llanberis took the spoils 2-1 at Llandyrnog United.

Reserves Division

Kinmel Bay were comfortable 3-0 winners over Nantlle Vale.

All the goals came in the second half, Jordan Worthington breaking the deadlock on 50 minutes with a super overhead bicycle kick

Shane Bradley added a wonder goal – an amazing left foot shot which rocketed into the top corner from 40 yards.

Matty Marsh Evans rounded things off with a lovely neat finish after taking the ball around three defenders.

Vale managed just two shots on target, Bay keeper Martin King dealing well with both one-on-one effort.

Man of the match went to Kinmel 17-year-old Ryan Cunningham with a fantastic work rate in the middle.

Tomos Huw Davies and Rhys Williams struck for Pwllheli in a 2-0 victory at Llanberis, while Llanrwst United cruised to a 6-1 result at Llanrug United.

Luke Roberts and Aron Hughes both bagged braces for the Rwsters, Cai Kearney and Cai Price adding singles. Ceirion Williams managed Llanrug’s sole response.
