Bangor 1876 FC announce key role players

Key roles have been taken up as a fan-owned football club continues to grow.

Bangor 1876 trust board recently held its first meeting and made a number of appointments.

Glynne Roberts was elected chair of the board with Les Pegler becoming treasurer.

A number of sub-committees were formed with board members on each but with the intention of recruiting others to serve and contribute new ideas.

The most prominent is the football operations committee which is effectively the Bangor 1876 FC Board.

This will be chaired by Glynne Roberts, with Jonathan Ervine, Les Pegler, Richard Williams and Dave Roberts as members, and Dafydd Hughes serving as secretary.

The finance committee will be chaired by Les Pegler and have Mark Jones, Richard Williams, Rob Lewis and Robin Williams as members.

This group is responsible for all financial matters including securing sponsorship and other fund raising activities.

Community engagement will be the responsibility of a committee which, in addition to providing a link to outside bodies, will also work with club-affiliated organisations such as Clwb Peldroed Merched Bangor and the junior boys team.

Representatives of these teams will be asked to join Dafydd Hughes, Matt Johnson as the trust secretary, and another director on this committee.

There will also be a fan engagement committee chaired by Dave Roberts with Vera Owen, Jonathan Ervine and Mark Jones involved.

This will be an important link with the fans and provide the focus for inputting ideas relating to 1876 and associated activities.

The club is particularly keen that its younger fans feel able to be involved with this group.

Volunteers supporting the football club in a range of activities will be looked after by a group yet to be formed.

It is also intended to appoint an advisory panel of local business people who can advise on business matters as 1876 seeks to progress as a community benefit society and a limited company.

Media officer Kevin Owen is no longer involved with the board, having resigned for personal reasons. Robin Williams has accepted an invitation to replace him as having attracted the next highest number of votes in the board election.

Glynne Roberts said: “We thank Kevin for his significant efforts in ensuring that Bangor 1876 enjoyed a high media profile in its first few months of existence, which stands it in good stead in the future.

“He was also responsible for the logo which adorns our popular 1876 tee-shirt. We wish him well and hope that he will remain a member of the 1876 faithful.”
