Skipper Murray-Williams is all-round hero as Pwllheli grab dramatic win over Pontblyddyn

North Wales Cricket League Premier Division

Pwllheli (12) 188-10 Pontblyddyn (3) 161-10

Result: Pwllheli won by 27 runs

Captain Morgan Murray-Williams produced a superb all-round display as Pwllheli took advantage of their game being the only one completed in the Premier Division by recording a 12-3 victory over Pontblyddyn which edged the Llyn side up to sixth place.

Pwll won the toss and elected to bat, but did not enjoy the best of starts, in-form Tristan Coetzee bowled by Jonathan Byrd for a duck from just the third ball of the match.

Fellow opener Craig Edwards went for 17 before Murray-Williams and Chris Moore added 50 for the third wicket.

Moore departed for 10, but the score progressed to 101-3 before Guto Williams was run out for three and Murray-Williams was lbw for 57 – 11 fours – without addition to the home total.

Lawrance Barraclough steadied things with 34 and more useful runs down the order enabled the hosts to reach 188 all out from 45.5 overs.

Aled Roberts was the leading Pont bowler with 4-44 off 10.5 overs.

In reply, the visitors lost their openers for 4 and 0 respectively and were 53-3 before Gethin Thomas and Byrd put them on top with a stand of 77.

However, when Byrd was bowled for 53 and Thomas caught behind for 67, it was the beginning of the end for the Alder Meadow side.

Pont lost their last six wickets for just five runs as they nosedived from 156-4 to 161 all out.

Coetzee made up for missing out with the bat by collecting 5-39 off 11 overs, while Murray-Williams produced superb figures of 4-24 from 10.

Pwllheli took the points 12-3.
